Masham
Masham is a cross between a Teeswater ram and Dalesbred or Swaledale ewe. The resulting wool characteristics are a long staple length (about 6 inches), good luster, and a micron count between 31-36. The yarn is strong and durable, perfect for outer garments as well as rugs and carpets. This wool also felts. It is very hydrophobic - that is, it is naturally water repellent, making it an excellent choice for mittens!

Highland Handmades spindles are crafted to give you the most durable, efficient, and beautiful spindle possible.  Every spindle has a stainless steel hook with a hematite-look finish set into a hardwood shaft.  The whorls are made from locally and ethically harvested trees from the North Maine Woods.  A notch is carved into the whorl to hold your single as you spin.  Spindles are finished two different ways: Clear satin polyurethane, which coats the spindle and protects the wood.  The finish feels smooth.  The other way is to use mineral oil (commonly used to treat butcher blocks and other wood surfaces).  Mineral oil sinks into the wood, so it isn't coated.  This makes the wood feel soft and brings out the natural beauty of each spindle. It should be noted that because the wood isn't coated, some poorly dyed fibers may stain the spindle.
All Highland Handmades spindles are guaranteed for LIFE.  If it ever gets damaged by dropping, normal wear and tear, kids, pets ... anything - ship it back to us and we will repair or replace it forever.  We want you to be happy with your HH spindle!
Note: Spindles ship in USPS priority boxes for domestic shipping; this means slightly higher shipping costs.
